Evil racers under the control of global mega-corporation Royalton Industries try to bottle up and damage Speed Racer and his Mach 5 (actually it becomes the Mach 6) in Speed Racer.

SEBRING, May 12, 2008 – I admit it took a little bit to get used to the busy graphics in Speed Racer. But the characters, so faithful to the original, the story, and the moral hooked me. By the end of the film I was, like the little girl in the row ahead of me, squirming and bouncing with delight.
Speed Racer is fun! The racing is hot, fast, and exciting, a mix of the best of NASCAR and bumper cars. The Mach 5 looks cool and hot at the same time! The story is well-told, from Speed’s days as a boy to his maturity as a youth. His closeness to his older brother, Rex, is absolutely heartwarming without becoming maudlin, and faithful Rex is always there, watching over his younger brother.
In a day when America falls for the globulous mega-corporations while the mom and pop merchants (the bulwark of free enterprise) die, the character of Speed Racer stands up for the individual and for the family and close friends and proves that love of them and love of what you do is what counts, not bean counting. We could expect no less from the Wachowskis who handle this material with much the same skill that they handled The Matrix. It’s about people and purpose, people. Please, don’t ever forget that.
Speed Racer is rated PG and plays at the Fairmount Cinema 6.

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer… the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
The question becomes: How does Trixie measure up to Daisy Duke?
